Due to the recent wind storm and downed trees, the Gilpin County Slash Site has opened for the season 2 weeks early. The slash site will open on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, with the same days and hours as the Transfer Station.   It is scheduled to remain open through Sunday, November 3rd, 2024.

Please have your County Resident window sticker visible in your windshield. Fees apply to non-residents and all commercial loads.  There is no charge for household quantities of slash from County residents.   Fees are charged for ALL COMMERCIAL LOADS.

Open Letter to the Community regarding The City of Black Hawk’s Lodging Tax Increase and Conditional Offer to Support the Gilpin County Parks and Recreation Department with $1,000,000 in 2025, with annual adjustments thereafter and Gilpin County’s interest to start negotiations.  

The offer was not declined.  

DRCOG staff are now accepting applications for the spring Denver Regional Council of Governments Civic Academy until Friday, March 29.

Research regarding tax rates in each of Colorado's 64 counties was presented at the February 27, 2024 Board of County Commissioners Meeting.

Among other findings, Gilpin County has the 4th lowest property tax rate in the State, the lowest property tax of counties without a sales tax, and a below average sales and property tax both within the State and across the nation.

The U.S. Forest Service (USFS) has withdrawn their Record of Decision that would have authorized the issuance of a special use permit for the Uinta Basin Railway. 

Gilpin County Commissioners have sent several letters of opposition for this project along with other local, state, and federal officials.
