BOULDER, Colo. (May 20, 2024) -- Fire crews remain at the Forsythe II Prescribed Burn Project Site, and will continue their work for the next several days. These crews are working on securing the edge around the Unit 44A burn area by spraying water and stirring dirt to ensure lack of heat while also utilizing sprinklers to widen the perimeter line. As you are aware, the Gilpin County Board of County Commissioners (“County”) received the City of Black Hawk’s (“City”) subsequent offer to provide a term-limited reoccurring direct contribution to support the Gilpin County Community Center, dated May 8, 2024. This followed the County’s request to start negotiations on the terms first shared with the County on March 21, 2024.
DENVER—Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is proud to announce a new feature on the Colorado Trail Explorer (COTREX) mobile app that notifies outdoor recreationists about active fire alerts, including wildfires and prescribed burns in covered areas.

BOULDER, Colo. (May 7, 2024) – Fire managers have determined that conditions will not be suitable for prescribed fire ignitions tomorrow, Wednesday, May 8, at the Forsythe II Prescribed Burn. Fire management professionals will continue to monitor for another possible ignition window after this incoming weather system, which unexpectedly dropped snow on the burn area this afternoon.
Gilpin County has taken proactive measures to protect its communities and infrastructure from wildfire hazards by contracting SWCA Environmental Consultants to develop an updated Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) for 2024. The CWPP will serve as a guiding document that will assist the County and landowners in making informed decisions with respect to wildfire preparation and management.

(April 23, 2024) – Trailhead shuttles, glamping yurts, and paddleboard rentals … these are some of the exciting new possibilities coming to the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests & Pawnee National Grassland over the next five years thanks to a new public-private partnership with Vista Recreation.
Attention Jurors & Justice Center Visitors: Materials for replacing the Gilpin County Justice Center’s Low Slope Roof Project have been delivered to the Justice Center’s main parking lot. Please note that these materials are taking up most of the parking in the lower-level parking lot. Construction is expected to last approximately two months, weather dependent. Please be cautious when visiting the Justice Center.
