Directions
Gilpin County Transfer Station is located at 278 Jankowski Drive, Black Hawk, CO 80422. It is just off Highway 119, approximately 1/4 mile north of Taggert's Gas Station at MM 15.5. The slash site is open seasonally (April to November), located directly across Highway 119 from the Transfer Station.
Our Services
Residential household waste: Residents pay $4 for regular trash bags up to 33 gallons, and $5 for bags that are 34-55 gallons.
Construction debris: residents pay $40 per cubic yard.
Larger items such as mattresses, furniture, appliances (no refrigerators): Residents pay by the piece or $40 per cubic yard.
Punch Cards cost $20 and have a value of $24 (24 punches).

Residential household Altogether recycling: $2 per 64 gallons, $30 per cubic yard for larger quantities.
Accepted Items: Newspaper, including inserts, office and mixed paper, magazines, paperboard (cereal boxes etc.), glass bottles & jars, aluminum cans and foil, steel cans, plastic containers #1 through #7 lids removed, milk cartons, and like packaging. Please rinse out any applicable items.
Not-Accepted Items: Clamshell or “to go” containers, packaging peanuts, Styrofoam, plastic silverware, compostable plastic, 6 pack rings, paper towel or napkins, food wrappers, motor oil or antifreeze containers, ceramics, cooking or drinking glassware, plate glass, or aerosol cans.
- Cardboard: $2 for up to L3’xW3’xH2’ stack of cardboard, $30 per cubic yard for larger quantities.

Some items are not accepted at the Transfer Station:
- Liquid materials of any kind. Paint can only be disposed of after it is hardened with cat litter or commercial hardener.
- Hazardous materials of any kind. Please visit Rooney Road Recycling or call 303-315-6262 for information on how to dispose of hazardous waste materials.
- Bricks, concrete, cinder blocks, asphalt, dirt, or stumps.
- Other hard to recycle items please visit Sustainability Recycling or call 303-425-9226.
Transfer Station personnel have the right to refuse any load.

Gilpin County property owners are eligible for one free trash day token during the 2025 calendar year.
Tokens are intended to assist with the annual cleanup of residential property. Tokens are good for up to 5 cubic yards of residential general debris, construction debris, furniture, appliances (no refrigerators), and yard waste (must be bagged). Tokens are not transferrable and can only be used for the property they are assigned to.
To request a token email gcpw@gilpincounty.org. Please include your name and property address. Tokens can be picked up at the Public Works office located at 255 Braecher Park Rd.
Undeveloped land owners: ONE token per year is issued for all of a property owners' combined properties.
Rental Properties: One token per year is issued to the property owner or the tenant with proof of residency.

The Slash Site will be open April 23 to November 9, 2025, weather permitting.
Hours of operation: Wednesday to Saturday, 7:00 to 2:00 and Sunday, 8:00 to 12:30.

Items Accepted:
- Slash and branches,
- Branches and log up to 6" in diameter,
- Logs over 6" in diameter (must be cut into 16" lengths and piled as directed by site attendant),
- Logs containing live beetles (must be cut into 4' lengths and piled as directed by site attendant).
Items Not Accepted:
- Yard debris,
- Pine needles,
- Leaves,
- Stumps,
- Roots,
- Contaminated materials containing any metal.
- Mulch that was ground at other locations.
Free mulch is available for pick up at the Slash Site. Please notify the on site attendant if you would like to get mulch. There may be a wait time for an operator to load mulch.
Please remember to cover your loads before traveling on the highway.
