South Beaver Creek Road Project

The South Beaver Creek Road project was begun in 2024 in order to review and evaluate solutions to the ongoing issues with that road. A request for proposals was shared and the county selected JR Engineering to complete the project. Two public meetings will be included as part of this project to share findings and gather input from the public. JR Engineering will develop a design plan and construction drawings to address the issues necessary for proper restoration of the roadway.

On May 19, 2025, JR Engineering hosted a public kickoff meeting to explain the project, share possible solutions, and solicit community questions and comments. View the May 19, 2025 slide presentation for the South Beaver Creek Road Kickoff Public Meeting.

JR Engineering hosted a second public meeting at 60% project completion to share solutions and solicit questions and feedback from the community. The meeting focused on a road improvement project in Gilpin County, where JR Engineering presented their design recommendations and progress for a 4-mile section of dirt road. The team discussed various options for pavement types, drainage improvements, and soft spot repairs, with particular attention given to the use of recycled asphalt and Reclamite as surface materials. The discussion concluded with technical considerations about geofencing, utility constraints, and water management challenges, while also addressing safety requirements and project timeline expectations spanning several years.

The Gilpin County Board of County Commissioners met on November 18, 2025, and approved the road surface and roadway design for South Beaver Creek Road.

The chosen surface is Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP), which supports sustainable construction and enhances the road’s durability. Design plans will now incorporate this material, ensuring the improvements meet safety and long-term maintenance goals.

The County will next explore funding options to begin construction. Public updates will continue as funding opportunities are identified and the project progresses.
