What is Radon?
Radon is a naturally occuring odorless and colorless radioactive gas that originates from uranium within the soil. Exposure to radon, particularly for prolonged periods of time, has been connected to increased risk of lung cancer. Radon exposure is most harmful within enclosed spaces such as homes, schools, and office buildings where the gas is unable to naturally disperse.
Colorado experiences high levels of radon statewide. Fortunately, there are many effective tools for identifying, monitoring, and reducing indoor radon levels.

Test kits are provided by Gilpin County Public Health and are typically funded with EPA and State grants, usually through the State Indoor Radon Grant.
