The Operable Unit 5 Update - February 2023 has been added to the state's Clear Creek Superfund Site website. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency are overseeing an investigation of mine waste piles in current or planned residential areas of the site. The Site Study Area covers the 400-square-mile Clear Creek watershed, including the towns of Central City, Black Hawk, Idaho Springs, Empire, and Georgetown.
