Food Assistance

Attention SNAP Recipients!!

Due to the Federal Government Shutdown November SNAP (Food Assistance) Benefits are on Hold

What this means for SNAP recipients:

  • You will not receive your SNAP benefits for November or they may be delayed
  • This affects all SNAP household and is not eligible for appeal
  • Right now, we do not have more information about what happens next
  • We will share updates as soon as we get them. You can also check the Colorado Department of Human Services' SNAP page for updates.

What should SNAP recipients do:

  • If you need help or have questions, please reach out to the Gilpin County Human Services at 303-582-5444
  • If you need food resources please reach out to the Gilpin County Food Pantry at 720-432-6120 or Gilpin County Human Services at 303-582-5444
  • You can check your PEAK account for information on benefits
  • New applicants should still apply for benefits and renewals should turn in their paperwork
  • Gilpin County will keep processing all new applications and renewals so that everyone who qualifies is ready to receive benefits as soon as funding becomes available

At this time all other benefits are continuing as normal.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits are not cash benefits but enables low-income individuals and families to buy nutritious food with an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card. An interview is required in the application process and can be done over the phone. You can apply online at the Colorado Peak website or call us to request an application by mail or email. We also have paper applications available (green folder), 24/7 between the two front doors of the Health and Human Services building and the Food Pantry. Completed paper applications can be dropped off in the entryway drop boxes at the same buildings.
