Gilpin County Seeks Public Input for Historic Ranch Property Use

Gilpin County recently acquired a 39-acre historic ranch property, primarily for its water rights. The Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) is interested in exploring potential uses for the property including historic preservation, natural resource conservation, development opportunities, and outdoor recreation. To ensure alignment with the County’s mission and public benefit, the BoCC has established the Ranch Property Working Group (RPWG) to evaluate future uses. The RPWG will be composed of nine members representing key stakeholders, expertise, and perspectives. All nine positions will be appointed the BoCC from interested community members and / or County staff:

  • Two (2) Local Residents or Community Representatives: Ensures community perspective are considered.
  • One (1) Historic Preservation Expert: Evaluates opportunities for preserving the property’s historic features.
  • One (1) Natural Resources Specialist: Advises on conservation, forest management, and water rights.
  • One (1) Economic Development Representative: Identifies development and revenue-generating opportunities.
  • One (1) Outdoor Recreation Advocate: Assesses recreation opportunities and public access considerations.
  • One (1) Agricultural or Ranching Expert: Evaluates potential agricultural uses and land stewardship.
  • One (1) Wildlife Expert: Advises on wildlife habitat considerations and impacts.
  • One (1) County Facilities Representative: Provides guidance on maintenance and operational considerations.

To be considered for one or more positions, please submit a letter of interest to sbower@gilpincounty.org with the following information:

  1. Your name, address, and position(s) you’d like to be considered for. If applying for multiple positions, rank them by preference.
  2. Relevant certifications, degrees, or experience for any expert position you are seeking.
  3. A brief statement outlining you interest in serving on the working group.
