Gilpin County and Central City are included in the Northwest Enterprise Zone (EZ), a program through the Associated Governments of Northwest Colorado (AGNC) designed to strengthen local economies in distressed areas by offering state income tax credits for businesses and incentives for nonprofit partnerships.
For businesses, EZ tax credits can apply to investments in equipment, job training, hiring new employees, research and development, vacant building rehabilitation, and more. These incentives encourage private-sector activity that creates jobs, spurs investment, and increases local tax revenue.
Nonprofits can participate by becoming Contribution Projects, which allow donors to qualify for an additional 25% state tax credit on cash donations (12.5% for in-kind). This unique incentive supports public-private partnerships to address community needs and drive targeted economic development.
