The Gilpin County Board of Commissioners (BoCC) approved Ordinance 25-01 on August 12, 2025, prohibiting the depositing of snow and ice in county-maintained roadways. The ordinance is effective immediately.

Why this matters:

Depositing snow or ice in roadways can create hazardous conditions for drivers and complicate snow removal and road maintenance. This ordinance is intended to protect the public health, safety, and welfare.

Key provisions:

  • No depositing of snow or ice from driveways, sidewalks, or other sources into county-maintained roadways.
  • Cure period: First violations receive a 24-hour notice to remove snow/ice. Repeat offenders may receive citations.
  • Fines: Minimum fine of $250 per violation; each day of continued violation is considered a separate offense.
  • Snow removal by County Public Works or authorized contractors is not a violation.

The ordinance applies to all individuals, property owners, and contractors who clear snow or ice along county roadways. All fines collected will be deposited into the Gilpin County General Fund.
