On November 18, 2025, the Gilpin County Board of County Commissioners approved Ordinance 25-02, establishing official Non-Truck Routes to protect county infrastructure, improve roadway safety, and reduce heavy-vehicle impacts on residential and environmentally sensitive areas.
The ordinance restricts travel by large vehicles classified as Class 7 or above on the following county roads:
- Gap Road (from CO 119 to Jefferson County)
- South Beaver Creek Road (from CO 119 to CO 72)
- Dory Hill Road (from 2960 Dory Hill Road to the Black Hawk city boundary)
Large vehicles may continue using these routes only when:
- An Exception Permit has been issued by the Public Works Department,
- They are responding to emergencies or being directed by law enforcement, or
- The route is temporarily the only passable option.
Exception Permits may be granted for reasons such as deliveries, essential services, resident access, or unavoidable detours. Fines for violations range from $500 to $2,500, with repeated violations subject to additional penalties.
The ordinance will take effect 60 days after adoption, allowing time for the installation of signage and public outreach efforts.
