Volunteers are at the heart of Gilpin County. From shaping policy on our citizen boards to serving meals to seniors, community members play a vital role in making Gilpin a strong, connected, and welcoming place to live. If you’re looking for ways to get involved, here are current opportunities:
Short-Term Opportunities
Spooky Stroll Volunteers
Thank you for offering your time to volunteer for this great community event! It will be held on Friday, October 24 from 5 to 9 p.m. but opportunities range from a few days before, early morning/afternoon on Friday, during the event, and the next day. Check out the sign-up form for specific dates and times. Volunteer opportunities include:
- Decorating the Haunted Barn, the Trick-or-Treat Trail, and the Rec Center Gymnasium
- Picking up candy from the school
- Helping on the Trick-or-Treat Trail
- Being a Haunted Barn Escort
- Scarers for the Haunted Barn
- Carnival Games *For school groups only*
- Trail, Barn, and Gym Clean-up

Longer-Term Volunteer Commitments
Community Volunteer Boards
Gilpin County has three volunteer boards that help guide important decisions in our community. Each board has positions that open annually.

- Historic Preservation Commission – Works to protect and preserve historic resources.

Please note that all three of these boards are accepting applications through October 31, 2025 to serve on their boards starting in January 2026. Check the links for more information and/or email the contact person to submit your resume and letter of interest or request more information.
Senior Services
Make a difference in the lives of older adults in our community.
- Senior Lunches – Help set up, serve, clean up, and enjoy friendly conversation during senior lunches on Mondays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Gilpin County Community Center. View the Senior Programs volunteer job description.
- Meals on Wheels (Backup Volunteer) – Assist with meal delivery when primary drivers are unavailable. View the Meals on Wheels volunteer job description.

Food Pantry
Support food access for Gilpin County residents in a variety of ways:
- Set up and clean the pantry regularly, assist clients
- Manage food drives throughout the year
- Support the summer lunch program & distribute back-to-school supplies
- Loading/unloading trucks
- Contribute to the community garden (June–September)
- Help prepare for special holiday dinners (shopping hours, Thanksgiving & winter holiday meal programs)
